While You Fast ( issue 5)

Speak to the Mountain

With a little over a fortnight to go, I have a lot of issues in my heart that we could address during this phase of the fast. However, I feel impressed in my spirit to write to you concerning the common faith that we were once dealt upon our salvation. This faith is the foundation of all our dealings with God. Hebrews 11:6 reminds us that He who comes to God MUST believe that He is, and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. I am almost sure that you have sought the Lord with all your heart and given the pain and agony of a prolonged fast, your faith in God’s unwavering faithfulness is almost at its peak. It may not feel that way, but we know that we live by faith (in what we believe) and not by sight (our feelings). In this issue, we will endeavor to muster faith; the mustard seed faith by beginning to exercise our confidence in His word and speaking to the mountain(s), expecting that they will be cast into the sea.

It is important to mention here a principle that God has demonstrated from the foundation of the world. Before He created anything or did anything, God had to say it. All that has ever been created or manifested was because of the spoken word. In Amos 3:7 it is written that God never does anything before He reveals it to His servants the prophets. This principle has carried on from Genesis to Revelation. In my research, there’s never been a substantial miracle that took place in the Bible without someone releasing words which upon obedience, created a different set of circumstances.  You are created in the image and the likeness of God; you are a Spirit, and you have the capability to act like Him. As such, the creative power that was used to create the world is in your DNA make up. We live in a world that our words create. Someone once said, no one can rise above the confession of their words.

Life is a Battle of Words

The blessings and curses that encompass us are because of words that have been spoken over us. In our world, almost anything that happens is consequence of words; politics, entertainment, witchcraft etc.; a culmination of a battle of words.

Proverbs 18:20-21 reminds us that from the fruit of his mouth, a man’s stomach is filled and with the harvest of his lips he is satisfied. Death and life are in the control of the tongue. Those who indulge in it will eat its fruit. This is where we begin to use our words to undo what Satan has done over the years and begin a new reality in our lives.

Be released from the Prison of Hope

You may ask, what is the difference is between this and speaking the word of God over our lives? Many of the battles we face cannot be won in the closet only. The faith that I am talking about helps you transition from a place of confessing the word as truth in your life, to the word becoming alive in your circumstances.  This is what the writer of Hebrews describes as calling those things that be not as though they are.  In Zachariah 9:12, the Holy Spirit by Zachariah the prophet refers to the people as prisoners of hope. This can also be corelated to the situation in Hebrews 4, where the Word was not beneficial to them because they did not mix it with faith. Faith will cause you to move from a place of hoping that God will come through for you to a place of knowing and being convinced that the things that you seek are in your possession. This is the faith that pleases God; believing before you see the manifestation. It is the foundation of all our relations with God.

Mark 11:23-24

For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore, I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them

It is important to note that here the author is not speaking about confessing the Word of God but rather addressing a specific mountain in one’s life. The Word that you have been confessing has built faith in you to address the mountains in your life without doubt. It is also noteworthy to point out that there is more “saying” in this Scripture than there is praying. There are some mountains in your life that will not depart until you face them and command them to go. True faith does not regurgitate the word of God in life issues; the word is ingested, digested and a confidence is produced that is able to shut the mouth of lions; bring the dead to life, walk on water, etc. True faith produces a confidence that our words and actions are in line with His word and will always produce the intended fruit.

Your authority to undo Satan’s dos

It may seem that the issues that affect us are a consequence of life, as in life happens, but for the Christian, we know that there is a force behind every action that seeks to undermine the authority of God in our lives. In Luke 10:19, Jesus gave us authority to tread on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means harm us. As such, whatever that is in your life that does not resemble the love and the goodness of God, you have the power to dethrone it in Jesus name.

Remember, I am not talking about prayer, I am talking about addressing these issues by name, and telling them that their reign of terror over your life is over. In the book of Acts we see this authority replicated multiple times; none of the workers of miracles prayed. Instead, they used their authority in Jesus and commanded a change in circumstances using phrases like; in Jesus name rise up and walk, be healed of your infirmity etc. Do the same and address every issue in your life, using the name of Jesus.

The physical change is not the evidence of your Faith

Sometimes our act of faith produces instant results while other times it may take a while. In the instances where it takes a while, the temptation is to begin to waver in our confession and wonder if you had sufficient faith to produce the desired fruit. I submit to you that the evidence of your faith is not the result but the confidence that you have what you seek, even when you do not have it. The Scriptures in Mark 11:24 point out that when you stand praying, believe that you have it, and you WILL have it. Meaning the believing must happen before the manifestation of the thing.

Meditative Psalm 118

Praise to God for His Everlasting Mercy

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever. Let Israel now say,
“His mercy endures forever.” Let the house of Aaron now say,
“His mercy endures forever. “Let those who fear the Lord now say,
“His mercy endures forever.”

I called on the Lord in distress; The Lord answered me and set me in a broad place.
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? The Lord is for me among those who help me; Therefore, I shall see my desire on those who hate me. It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord
Than to put confidence in princes. All nations surrounded me,
But in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me; But in the name of the Lord, I will destroy them. They surrounded me like bees; They were quenched like a fire of thorns; For in the name of the Lord I will destroy them. You pushed me violently, that I might fall, But the Lord helped me. The Lord is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation. The voice of rejoicing and salvation
Is in the tents of the righteous; The right hand of the Lord does valiantly. The right hand of the Lord is exalted; The right hand of the Lord does valiantly. I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. The Lord has chastened me severely,
But He has not given me over to death. Open to me the gates of righteousness;
I will go through them, And I will praise the Lord.
This is the gate of the Lord, through which the righteous shall enter. I will praise You,
For You have answered me, And have become my salvation. The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing;
It is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the Lord has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it. Save now, I pray, O Lord;
O Lord, I pray, send now prosperity. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
We have blessed you from the house of the Lord. God is the Lord,
And He has given us light; Bind the sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar. You are my God, and I will praise You; You are my God, I will exalt You. Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
