A pure Language

A pure Language

Surrender your tongue to the Holy Spirit.

In the last couple of years, a lot has been spoken, taught and written about the phenomenon of speaking in tongues. Some people understand it, others tolerate it and some embrace it wholly.
The Scriptures have spoken a lot about the human tongue, beginning from Genesis 11: 1-7; God brought confusion into man’s language because there wasn’t a thing they purposed to do that would have failed good or bad. In James 3:5-6, He describes the nature of our tongue “In the same manner, the tongue is a very small member and boasts of great things. Behold, how great a forest a little fire kindles! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body and sets on fire the course of our nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every nature of beasts and of birds and of serpents and of beings in the sea may be tamed and is tamed by mankind, but no man can tame the tongue, which is an evil that cannot be restrained and is full of deadly poison. With it we bless God, even the Father; and with it we curse men, who are made in the image of God.” In the new covenant, James points out that this little member cannot be tamed, it can only be surrendered.

In Zephaniah 3:9, Holman’s translation says “For I will then restore pure speech to the peoples, so that all of them may call on the Name of Yahweh and serve Him with a single purpose”. It seems to me that without the Lord touching our tongues, we as the body of Christ are and will be unable to serve the Lord shoulder to shoulder.

The same divisions that arose in Genesis 11, still scatter the church today; everyone is doing as they understand and hence the many fractures in the church. What would happen if all denominations embraced the Holy Spirit wholly, with the evidence of speaking in tongues? What would happen if despite our theological differences, we submitted to the Holy Spirit? Would the church be any different? What would happen if you the reader allowed the Holy Spirit to restore a pure language to you? And coals of fire touched your unclean lips like the prophet Isaiah ? It’s no coincidence that on the day of Pentecost they were heard speaking in other tongues, before other manifestations. God dealt with their tongues, then they were heard glorifying God in one accord.

In your own dialect, your words are driven by self-preservation and they loop around the flesh and carnality, this is the nature of man. In the absence of the leadership of the Holy Spirt, Jesus is a Historical figure that we admire, but the truth is hidden underneath our carnal perspectives.

When you surrender to Holy Spirit, He gives you utterance that bypasses interference of the flesh and the mind, and directly communicate with God. This is mentioned in 1 Corinthians 14: 2, “For whoever speaks in languages does not speak to men, but he is speaking to God, for no man understands what he speaks, but by the Spirit he speaks mysteries.”
Speaking in tongues is one of most powerful tools that the Lord has given the Church. By it we:

  • Pray to the Lord with perfect faith (Jude 1: 20)
  • We give thanks to God perfectly (1 Corinthians 14:17)
  • We build ourselves up in the Lord (1 Corinthians 14:4)
  • As we pray in the Holy Spirit, He causes all things that befall us to turn to our good. (Romans: 8- 25-28)
  • It is a weapon of warfare that causes us to defeat the enemy. (Ephesians 6 :18)
  • It is the way by which the Spirit of God, by your spirit prays for you.

I submit to you that the times that we are living in demand for the intervention of the supernatural realm. If there was a time for us to use what has been availed for us, it is now. Surrender your tongue to the Lord; let Him give you pure speech and utterance that will impart revelation-knowledge to you. It doesn’t matter from whence you come from! Baptist, Methodist, Catholic or whichever persuasion you belong to. If you have Jesus as the Foundation of your faith and the Lord of your life, this gift has been availed to you freely. Just ask the Lord to fill you with His Spirit, surrender your tongue and you will experience this glorious renewal.
If you are already filled with the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in other tongues, incorporate it more into your prayer life and a spirit of wisdom and revelation will fill you. It is one of the ways that we can tarry in the presence of God for extended periods of time without fainting. God wants to enrich up your life with the supernatural and to declare and decree mysteries over your life as you pray in the Holy Ghost.
